Time Share Cat

The lovely Miss Kitty has decided to spend the bulk of her Summer with us.  Kitty belongs to Vince and his family, who live across the road from us.  While they were away, Kitty decided that she wanted company and spent the whole time chasing Henry.  We also had some really hot +40 days, and sleeping under our house was a cooler option for her.

Corn

This year I decided to try to grow corn.  I put in four seeds and now have 4 fabulous plants.  In fact I should start seeing corn in about 20 days.  (Apparently it takes about 90 days from seed to crop).  Anyway I planted them at the edge of the tomato plot.  This has not really worked out very well.  All the plants are doing well, but the tomatoes are using the corn as a support trellis.  Hopefully it won't interfere with either plant.  This is one of the reasons why I have decided to restructure the garden and put in a third planter box.  More corn news soon.

Lavender

I mentioned in an earlier post that I intend to add more lavender plants to the garden.  Every year I dry my lavender and use it to make lavender bags which I include in my Christmas hampers.  I personally find that English lavender has the best scent (and lasts the longest).  The French lavender is a more attractive plant and flower though (at least in my opinion).  About this time of year I cut bunches of lavender for drying.

Landscaping ideas

A friend sent me a link to this site - it has some wonderful landscaping ideas. I really like the pebble feet.

Enjoy

Summer Harvest

The Summer crop is coming on, and very soon I will have loads of zucchinis, tomatoes and eggplants.  The peaches and strawberries are finished for now, but raspberries, mulberries and figs are  ripening with gusto.

Summer is a wonderfully rewarding time in the garden, it does't matter if you have a couple of herbs and tomatoes in a pot, or a large garden plot, it is lovely to serve home grown produce.

New Years Plans

I hope that you all had a great Christmas and New Year.  I took some time over the holidays to make some plans for my 2014 garden.  I am planning on adding an extra bed to the top garden.  This will mean moving the current brick path and existing two beds - see photo.

I will do this in about May - after the summer harvest is complete and it has cooled down a little.

Also I am going to put in an extra bed around the tap area, for the olive and peach trees and some extra lavender.

I hope that your plans are going well.  Happy gardening.
