Lazy gardener

Well I have to admit to being a bit on the lazy this week.  I started to trim the rosemary into a reasonably tidy hedge, but had to give up because of the rain (not complaining about that of course) so now I have a slanty hedge. (Picture is pre-trim). I will make more of an effort tomorrow. Other than that, the painting of the front fence is progressing well, and the garden is looking good.

Cooler weather

There is not terribly much going on in the garden at the moment.  I have pretty much done all I can to prepare for Winter - aside from trim the rosemary into a reasonable looking hedge shape.  I am between crops at the moment, with the lettuces being the next item to be ready for picking.  Usually I am better organised and have lettuce and greens on the go all year but the changeable weather (hot/cold/dry and wet occurring in no particular) has meant that I am buying all my veg at the moment.  While the actually gardening work is a little quiet I will take the opportunity to paint the front fence and set in more tiles.  Happy gardening!  Sarah

Well it has been a rather interesting day.  I took time out from my writing to do a bit of Autumn gardening - I cut out the old raspberry canes, trimmed the espaliered apples, and put down more sugar cane mulch, and the afternoon rain was much needed.  It was unseasonably hot all last week and along with the rain we had buckets of hail.  I guess I now know what it would look like if it ever snowed here.

Time to clean out the shed

The local council's annual hard rubbish pickup starts next week, which means that it is time to clean out the potting shed and throw out any unwanted items.  When I started work on the garden I bought cheaper plastic tools, plastic trellis supports and light weight arches.  Time to throw out the broken and unwanted items, some of those pots I have accumulated and disused hoses and attachments - a lot will wind up getting recycled.  I have two weeks to get my unwanted items ready to ditch, so it is time to get moving.  I also need to label the sections of my garden bed before I forget what seeds and seedlings I planted where.
