Happy Australia Day!  I hope that you haven't spent the day behaving like a crass drunk bogan.  I didn't spend any time in the garden today but will put in some hours over the long weekend.  The zucchini glut continues and I am going to make another lot of relish and make a chocolate zucchini cake.  There is a great recipe in the February Burke's Backyard magazine and I am going to give that a go (http://www.burkesbackyard.com.au/67/magazine).
Enjoy your weekend

Very dry weather continues

Gosh it has been dry - so dry in fact that watering every day has not made a significant difference to the yard.  I am going to have to spend a little bit of time tomorrow being ruthless and pulling out the plants which clearly have no chance of surviving.  On a positive note the dry weather has meant that I have been able to oil the decking and deck furniture (see furniture).  Also the dry weather hasn't stopped the tomatoes from coming on, and the zucchini are still going strong.  I have already made one lot of relish and it looks very much like a second batch will get done before the season is out.  I will add the recipe to the preserves page.  Happy gardening.

Dry weather

It has been rather hot and dry over the last two weeks and the garden is suffering despite regular watering.  At least we are lucky enough not be in one of the bushfire zones.  The zucchini is going mad and needs to be checked every day for new veg.  The zucchini can become as big as your arm if left for even a couple of days.  Needless to say, this weekend I am making zucchini relish.  I am trying a new recipe this year as the last one was far to sweet for my taste.  More next week.  Sarag

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope that your 2013 is off to a great start. I am in the process of reviewing my garden and what I need to do for 2013.  With my Christmas holiday nearly over (I return to work on Monday), I don't have much time to look at the garden.  We are in the middle of a Melbourne heat wave (very hot, but only lasts for a short time) and I have returned from my travels to find large sections of the garden looking very dry indeed.  I will do what I can to revive everything and then work on replacements for the unlucky ones.

Have a great week
