February heat

We have had a scorcher of a weekend here in Melbourne - three days of temperatures over 36 degrees.  We have been promised afternoon rain, but seeing that it is now three o'clock and the sun is shining brightly I think that the chances are looking rather slim indeed.  Not much in the way of produce this weekend - just raspberries and figs.  I will get more tomatoes before the weather turns cold, and maybe more eggplants and zucchini if I can get enough water to them.
More next week.

February - more figs

Hi all

I have put my fig paste recipe up in the Preserves section - picture to come. I have spent most of the week (garden time) weeding and watering, sorting out the dried herbs and keeping the wild life from the figs.

February Fruit

Hi all,

The fruit and veg is still ripening with a vengeance.  In addition to the usual tomatoes, potatoes, spinach, zucchini, eggplant and lettuce, the raspberries and figs are ripening.  Within 24 hours of the figs ripening there was an influx of fruit bats and possums, so I have to work quickly to get the fruit before they do.  I will be adding the raspberry cordial and fig paste recipes very soon (probably in about 3 weeks - that will be when I will start making them).

Have a great week

February Already!

Hi all,

Sorry about the "no post" last week, I was having some trouble getting on to the blog site (old computer - will replace in the next month or two - just need time to go and get one).  The garden is going well but I am afraid that I worked on Australia Day and last Saturday and the almost two weeks of neglect has resulted in crazy weed growth.  Still it is producing loads of tomatoes, salad vegetables, eggplants and zucchinis, and I have noticed the new raspberries coming on thick and fast - not to mention the figs.

Thanks for the emails about the new pages - I really make an effort to fill those out over the coming weeks and months.
