March 2 - 2011

Well another week has flown by and the garden is still producing loads of tomatoes, salad greens, zucchini, egg plant, figs and raspberries.  The zucchini and cherry tomato are probably in their last week so I will pulling them out of the garden next weekend and preparing the bed for the winter rotation.

Garden show next weekend!

Have a good week

End of 1st Year update

Well I have been working on my garden for about a year now.  I have made some progress but my visions of a beautiful completed landscaped garden are still far off.  I am very pleased to have removed the old trellis, replaced the deck, replaced the fence, painted the house, but there are still a number of tasks for my next year.

I am very happy with the vegetables and fruit and have learnt a lot about soil, plant placement and suitable crops for my district.  For example next summer I am not going to put in pumpkins or squash and am going to get to more berry canes for that garden bed instead.  I am going to get a bush lime too. I will still have zucchini and eggplants, summer herbs, chillies, capsicums and tomatoes of course, and my all year lettuce, rocket, herbs and raddishes as staples.

I am planning a winter rotation of Asian greens, potatoes, broccoli, garlic, fennel and cauliflower.

With berries (blackberries, raspberries, strawberries), the guava, the two apples, the cherry, the lemon, lime and olive, and next door's fig in the fruit category I will have stacks of produce every season.

And I am still planning to keep the flower garden, and install a new garden down the side of the house for semi-shade plants.

I must be mad :)

More soon

March 1 - 2011

The first decent weekend  - not too hot, no rain and I am too darn sick to garden - foul head cold - another one.  The veg are great though.  Loads of zucchini, eggplant. tomatoes, and figs and raspberries on the fruit side of things.  Hopefully the new photos have taken.

More next week
